Running Health As you may have seen in the press, the excellent results
from Calne SMaRTT runners at the Reading Half on Sunday was overshadowed by the death of fellow
runner Ged Clarke from Reading, who was taken ill at the finish line and never recovered. The
thoughts of the club members are with his family and friends at this time. REMEMBER - if you feel
ill when training or competing then stop and seek help and advice. Better to be well for the next
race than face a long lay-off pushing by the extra mile or few seconds. |

Running Safety - Personal Stereos At the White Horse Half
Marathon last Sunday 5 competitors were disqualified for wearing personal stereos during the
run. It most definitely effects your ability to hear traffic and so can be extremely
dangerous whilst out on the roads. It's also antisocial when in a group. If you feel
you have to have tunes to run to then use one earpiece only or buy sports earpieces
which allow outside noise to be heard as well (somehow!). Remember for Tri events
it is instant disqualification to use phones, personal stereos or other devices at
any time in the event.

Reading and White Horse Half Marathons - 1st
April 2012 A great turn out of
Smartties at the Reading and White Horse races over the weekend. Again some excellent
times by the runners. Reading saw Ian Scott storm home in 1:20 with Emma Satchell first lady
in 1:31. Away from the masses of runners in Reading our ladies competing in the White Horse
Half at Grove all achieved personal best times in a great effort.
